I first decided to become a teacher for two different reasons. The first reason became apparent to me while helping my younger siblings with their schoolwork. My siblings all have different levels of dyslexia and they struggle immensely with their school work. The schools that my siblings attend have very few programs to help them stay caught up with their coursework and classmates, and their educators are easily frustrated with them. Watching them struggle made me want to become a teacher so that I can help create programs within my own classroom to help students that don’t easily understand the curriculum. The second reason became apparent while trying to find activities to keep my son actively engaged in the learning process. He is a very intelligent young man. Although he acquires, and masters material quickly, he becomes easily bored when he is not challenged. While trying to find programs to keep him challenged, I noticed that there were not many programs available to gifted students. Watching my son struggle to stay interested in learning also made me want to become a teacher, so I can incorporate activities into my own teaching curriculum to keep students like him interested in learning.
I believe I will be a good teacher because I believe that education is the most important thing you can have in life. I want to help students reach their highest potential, and enjoy doing it. I am a very creative person, and I have a talent for finding ways to explain things in a way nobody ever thought to. I think this talent will be helpful in the classroom to help students stay interested and help them achieve a better understanding of what is being taught in the classroom. I believe I will be able to provide a learning experience for my students that they will always be able to carry with them.
I have many long term goals that I would like to accomplish. I intend on graduating from Dixie State College with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I would then like to get a job out of state teaching in an elementary school. While teaching I would like to continue my education by working towards my master’s degree. I would also like to travel so that I can add culture to the learning experience of my students. I’m looking forward to the rewarding experience that I believe teaching will bring.
